Amor Therapies · Bethnal Green, East London
Hijama is a form of cupping therapy with roots in traditional and Sunnah practice, carried out for centuries as part of a wider approach to health. It has since been adopted well beyond that tradition, and today it is used by athletes, therapists and clinics worldwide as a hands-on recovery tool in its own right.
A cup is placed on the skin and suction is created, drawing blood to the surface of the treated area. That local increase in circulation is thought to help ease muscle tension and support the body's natural recovery process. Some practitioners also offer wet cupping, which involves a small, controlled incision; Amor Therapies focuses on dry cupping as part of its Recovery sessions.
It's worth being upfront that hijama is a complementary therapy, not a medical treatment, and it isn't a substitute for seeing a doctor about a diagnosed condition.
At Amor Therapies, hijama cupping isn't sold as a stand-alone add-on. It's folded into our Recovery sessions and combined with massage or percussion therapy depending on what your body needs that day, using single-use equipment and full hygiene standards throughout.
You don't need to be Muslim to book in. Some clients come specifically for the Sunnah practice, others come because they've heard it helps with tension and recovery, and both are treated exactly the same way.
If you're curious, carrying tension, or recovering from training, it's a reasonable thing to try as part of a Recovery session. If you have a specific medical condition, a skin condition, or you're pregnant, it's worth mentioning that when you book so we can advise properly.
